Come to this hour-long exploration of laughter in your life. Laughter Yoga is an ancient new idea for reconnecting to our true selves. You’ll learn why we don’t need a reason to laugh (no sense of humor needed!), the difference between happiness and joyfulness, and the importance of laughing everyday, alone and with others.
Laugh like you’ve never laughed before! Discover profound levels of peace, joy and relaxation through laughter. Creating peace within creates peace without. Feel refreshed and invigorated - enhance your energy, mood and creativity - how cool is that?!?!?

Come celebrate World Laughter Day on May 4th 2008!
World Laughter Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday in May. This year, Eugene will come together with the rest of the world to laugh and spread happiness and joy. Our mission: good health, joy and world peace through laughter!
Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders and Teachers Sheila Gibbons and Maya Balenz invite laughter lovers to come out in colorful or silly costumes to Madison Meadows Park (at 22nd & Madison) for one hour at 4:30 p.m. to celebrate World Laughter Day with mirth and merriment.

A Little Background
The Laughter Clubs movement is a global initiative to unite all of humankind thru unconditional love & laughter. It is a non-religious, non-racial, & non-profit organization committed to generate good health, joy and world peace thru laughter.
The first Laughter Yoga club was started on March 13, 1995 in Mumbai, India. The concept is now fast sweeping the world with more than 6000 laughter clubs in more than 60 countries. This revolutionary idea has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world & has helped them to attain a state of wellness.
World Laughter Day was created in 1998 by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. The first World Laughter Day gathering took place in Mumbai in 1998, where 12,000 local & international laughter club members joined together for a mega laughter session.
A “Happy-demic”, the first World Laughter Day outside India, took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, with 10,000 laughers gathering at Town Hall Square, is entered in the Guiness Book of World Records, as the largest ever group, in 2000, to gather to laugh together. This is proof enough that laughter groups are not to be taken lightly & they are no laughing matter!
In India, laughter club members, friends and families gather on World Laughter Day in squares, parks and auditoriums, carrying banners, such as “World Peace thru Laughter”, “The Whole World is an Extended Family”, & “Laugh and Make others Laugh”, with laughter exercises, clapping, dancing and chanting “Ho ho ha ha ha!”. Then the founder, Dr. Kataria reads his message for World Peace. His message is followed by laughing contests, bad singing contests, music and dance.

This is a new idea that has just sprung into my head. I love to read and I don’t make enough time for myself to do it. I think most people don’t. So I thought this would be a fun way to not only get some great books in, but to also foster some conversation about them. Right now, I envision it will be quarterly because who can’t manage just four books a year? What do you think?
What book? For the summer of 2008, it’ll be Eat, Pray, Love.
When does it start? June 2008.
